The buchaechum is Korea’s fan dance, where each dancer holds a pair of peony fans and, moving together, the whole group opens into a single living flower. No one fan is the bloom – the bloom is what they make together. Here the dancers rise from flat ink into dimensional color, fans of glass and silk unfolding in a spiral until many become one great peony. It is the simplest truth of culture and joy: we are most beautiful when we move as one.
