About this Artwork

Water Sentinel was inspired by the Water Soldiers (Stratiotes aloides), native plants to the Netherlands and much of Northern and Western Europe. The Netherlands is a water country filled with slow moving water, lakes and canals. This plant is fundamental because it helps regulate and purify aquatic ecosystems.

I was deeply inspired by the the Water Soldiers because they protect something vital for humanity – water. In parallel, because of its name, I sadly thought of the wars. Peace and harmony should be just as much preserved and disseminated.

Water sentinel is the merge of nature and machine, it looks like a human made device, a water filter created to protect and cleanse the waters of our planet.

Just as the Water Sentinel I wish there were plants or devices that could spread peace, harmony, balance and love into the hearts of people, especially into the hearts of the so called leaders of the world.
